Experience has shown that almost every SAT Exam will include at least one question involving the multiplication of binomials. The process is straightforward using some simple rules!
•When multiplying binomials, multiply their First, Outer, Inner, and Last terms and then add the products.
–Example: Multiply (3x + 1)(4x – 4)
First Terms: (3x)(4x) = (3)(4)x(1+1) = 12×2
Outer Terms: (3x)(-4) = (3)(-4)x = -12x
Inner Terms: (1)(4x) = 4x
Last Terms: (1)(-4) = -4
Add the products.
12×2 – 12x + 4x – 4 = 12×2 – 8x – 4
